German Chocolate Cake Frosting

Makes 2 1/2 cups. Consider making 1 1/2 batches to ensure you have enough frosting.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 slightly beaten egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups coconut
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Directions

  1. Combine all but coconut and nuts.
  2. Cook and stir over medium heat until thickened (about 12 min).
  3. Add coconut and nuts.
  4. Cool until think enough to spread.
